Fall 2010 Anime Coverage

This new season of anime is well under way, with most of the series having aired their first episodes. I have yet to find enough time to watch many beyond Bakuman, but I do plan on covering several series on an episode-by-episode basis.

Bakuman

fall1You might have already read my first impressions post on episode one “Truth and Reality” which was posted just a few days ago here. I found it quite enjoyable, and believe that it will definitely be a highlight of this season, as do several of my friends. I will be covering every episode of this!

In short: a must watch for me. Has a shounen feel, with the protagonists aiming high and chasing their dreams!

1 – “Truth and Reality”

2 – “Stupid and Clever”

3 – “Parents and Children”

4- “Time and Key”

5- “Summer and Name”

Iron Man

Having watched one episode, I’m not quite sure what to think of this. We can feel the resemblance this holds to the quite recent Iron Man films of the past few years, and that will lend to this series being either a hit or miss with anime fans. It does have a Marvel feel to it, retaining the roots of the famous comic hero which might not appeal to anime purists. The story seemed quite plain…stereotypical, but the action was pretty awesome. I think I’ll just give this a few more episodes to see whether action is the only thing this has going for it, and then decide whether to drop it, or continue watching (and write something about it).

Ore no Imouto ga Konnani Kawaii Wake ga Nai (My Little Sister Can’t Be This Cute)

fall3

Kyousuke Kousaka, a normal seventeen-year-old high school student, hasn’t gotten along with his younger sister, Kirino, in years…One day, however, Kyousuke finds a DVD case of a magical girl anime entitled Hoshikuzu Witch Merle (Stardust Witch Merle), which had fallen into the entranceway of his house. To Kyousuke’s surprise, inside the case is a hidden adult video game titled Imouto to Koishiyo! (Love with Little Sister!).

I’ve seen one episode so far and it is sufficiently interesting to continue watching. The premise is a bit strange with the main character’s rude little sister doing inappropriate things…AND NO, THIS IS NOT A SISCON ECCHI.  The humour is based around rather awkward situations and a fair amount of irony.

1- “There’s No Way I’d Love My Little Sister”

2- “There’s No Way I’d Go To an IRL Meetup With My Sister”

3- “There’s No Way My Little Sister Can Be This Cute”

4- “There’s No Way My Little Sister Would Go To Summer Comiket”

5- “There’s No Way My Little Sister’s Friend is This XX”

6- “There’s No Way My childhood Friend Can Be This Cute”

The World God Only Knows

Based off the manga of the same name, I have high expectations for this series which my good friend declares is one of his favourites amongst all the manga he has read!

1- “The World Runs On Love”

2- “One Hell of a Little Sister / Baby, You’re a Rich Girl”

3- “Drive My Car/I Don’t Want To Spoil The Party”

4- “On a Crusade”

5- “Idol Bomb”

Arakawa s2

When it comes to a sequel for a series such as Arakawa, there’s really not much to say. The first season brought us endless joy with it’s randomness, absurd characters and minimal plot. The second season seems to be…more of the same. And that’s a good thing, because many (myself included) enjoyed the first season a lot! I don’t see the need to cover this series further :P

Oh, one last thing…the OP is absolutely ridiculous. The video takes us through space stations, floating squid………The lyrics involve space battles, cheesy love and it just sounds different. Kinda like the previous OP’s…and the series as a whole.

Omae Umasou

I started watching this and realised that it was only 2 minutes or so. Definitely not what I was expecting, even though it is a children’s show. Additionally, the animation is…kinda like what I used to watch as  a kid. Animation you would barely call animation these days (a bit of an exaggeration) with crayon like textures and such. I guess it’s just a children’s show anyway.

Also, it seems that the one I was wanting to watch is actually the film based on the same story, with proper anime styled animation! Yay!
